Average Lifespan of Latex Helium Balloons

Here is a general breakdown of how long does a latex balloon with helium last under different conditions:

  • Standard latex balloons (11–12 inches): 8–12 hours

  • Smaller latex balloons: 4–6 hours

  • Larger latex balloons: 18–24 hours

  • Latex balloons treated with sealant (such as Hi-Float): up to 24–48 hours

Without treatment, latex balloons should ideally be inflated on the same day as the event to maintain their best appearance.

Instructions on How to Inflate Latex Balloons with Helium

  • Secure the helium tank on a stable surface.

  • Remove the safety cap from the tank.

  • Stretch the balloon gently before inflating to improve shape and float time.

  • Place the balloon’s opening over the nozzle.

  • Press the nozzle gently to release helium and fill the balloon.

  • Stop when the balloon becomes round or slightly oval. Do not overinflate.

  • Detach the balloon and securely knot it.

  • Add a ribbon and use a balloon weight.

Inflating Mylar Balloons with Helium

  • Find the self-sealing valve.

  • Insert a straw or the nozzle into the valve.
